Mandy Lynn Buckwalter Obituary, Death; – A 43-year-old woman from Hutchinson tragically lost her life when a suspect fleeing from law enforcement collided with her vehicle on Monday in northeast Wichita. Mandy Lynn Buckwalter, the victim, was known for her extensive travels to remote regions and her dedication to working with children who have developmental disabilities when she was at home.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:38 p.m. near the intersection of 29th and Wilderness in Wichita. The crash involved a 24-year-old woman from Wichita, who was being pursued by officers due to her involvement with a stolen vehicle. After abandoning the stolen vehicle, she proceeded to steal a 2024 Ford Transit van from a nearby business, which she subsequently crashed into Buckwalter’s 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt.
The suspect was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of 29th Street, while Buckwalter was driving eastbound in the same lane. According to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol, both drivers attempted to maneuver to the outside lane simultaneously, resulting in a head-on collision.
A family member expressed their grief on Facebook, stating, “Though you may be gone, Mandy Buckwalter, your vibrant influence remains, empowering us to chase our aspirations and make a lasting difference. Love you!”
Buckwalter served as a home assistant supervisor at Heartspring’s therapeutic school, which supports children with developmental disabilities. She had been employed there for three years. The nonprofit organization honored her memory on Facebook, describing her as a “cherished colleague who made a lasting difference in the lives of the children in our care.” They expressed gratitude for her warmth, commitment, and genuine spirit.
A coworker reflected on her impact, stating, “Amazing, amazing woman who lived a life of service and made immeasurable impacts around the world (literally!).” Another individual who shared the post remarked on the privilege of working alongside her, noting the profound love she brought to the group home each day, her dedication to her students, and the respect she garnered from her colleagues.
