Lavon Hall,MaLaysia Martin Obituary, Death;  Homicide detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department have identified a 41-year-old man as the suspect in the fatal shooting of a mother and daughter on Tuesday night in Compton.

The individual sought by investigators is Donte Lamont Brown, who is known to frequent the areas of Long Beach and Compton and is considered armed and dangerous. According to the sheriff’s department, Brown is the estranged boyfriend of La’von Hall, one of the victims, who was found shot alongside her daughter, Ma’Laysia Martin.

On April 1, at approximately 7:05 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a shooting at the intersection of Caldwell Street and South Central Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered La’von on the ground with gunshot wounds. Ma’Laysia was located in the passenger seat of a vehicle at the intersection, also suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff’s department believes that Brown approached the victims’ vehicle while it was stopped at a red light and opened fire. La’von exited the vehicle from the driver’s side and collapsed on the ground.

The vehicle, now without a driver, continued across Central Avenue and struck a traffic signal pole. Ma’Laysia was found unresponsive in the passenger seat. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. To provide information anonymously, please call (800) 222-8477.
