Lauree Jankowski Obituary, Death; – A woman reportedly assaulted a Columbus police officer with a knife before being fatally shot by another officer, according to the Nebraska State Patrol. The event took place around 5 p.m. on Saturday, while officers were engaged in an investigation in the vicinity, officials stated.
The woman, named Lauree Jankowski and aged 33, attacked one of the officers with a knife, prompting another officer to shoot and injure her, as per the Nebraska State Patrol. Officials indicated that officers provided immediate assistance, but Jankowski was pronounced dead at the scene.
An officer who sustained injuries was treated at a local hospital and subsequently released later that evening, the Nebraska State Patrol reported. Investigators confirmed that the knife was retrieved from the scene. The Nebraska State Patrol will persist in its investigation of the incident, and in accordance with Nebraska law, a grand jury will also conduct an inquiry.
