Kevin Moses Walker Obituary, Death; – Authorities are conducting an investigation into a home invasion that occurred in Rockingham County on Sunday night, which resulted in the deaths of a woman from Rockingham County and the intruder.

Deputies from the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office responded to an emergency call at 11:58 p.m. on Sunday regarding a home invasion involving an armed intruder on the 13000 block of North Valley Pike. Upon their arrival, deputies encountered a man outside the residence, who was identified as the 911 caller and the homeowner, Michael Hatcher, as per an RCSO release. Hatcher, aged 65, had visible injuries sustained during the home invasion and a confrontation with the armed intruder, the release indicated.

Another individual, identified as Kevin Moses Walker, 41, from Pikesville, Maryland, was discovered deceased in the driveway outside the residence, the release further stated.

Inside the home, deputies located a female victim, 62-year-old Holly Hatcher, who was confirmed to be deceased, according to RCSO. Holly was a resident of the home and the wife of Michael Hatcher.

Virginia State Police have joined the homicide investigation alongside RCSO. Authorities have established that the assailant entered the home armed with a large knife and fatally stabbed Holly, leading to her injuries, the release noted. The assailant subsequently attacked Michael with the knife as the confrontation moved outside, at which point Michael shot the assailant with a handgun from his vehicle, according to RCSO. This shot halted the attack and resulted in the death of the assailant, the release added.

“This investigation is still ongoing, with RCSO and VSP both diligently working to uncover all the facts and the highly unusual circumstances surrounding this violent and tragic crime,” stated Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson. “In consideration of the victim’s family’s privacy, no further details will be disclosed. Following a consultation with Commonwealth’s Attorney [Marsha] Garst this morning, no charges will be filed due to the assailant being deceased.
