The Coast Guard Station Lake Tahoe boat crew was the first to respond to reports of ten individuals in the water after their boat capsized around 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 21. The response involved the Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento C-27 Spartan aircrew, El Dorado County Sheriff’s and K-9 unit, as well as California State Parks rangers and seasonal lifeguards.

Authorities confirmed that initially six individuals perished, two were injured, and two were unaccounted for following the capsizing of the 27-foot gold Chris-craft vessel. The two injured persons were taken to a local hospital. The remaining two bodies were recovered from the icy waters of Lake Tahoe on Sunday night and Monday afternoon.

The Coast Guard indicated that the vessel capsized due to a significant swell, with winds in the Lake Tahoe Basin reaching nearly 35 mph at the time of the incident. Callers notified the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office that the group was visible in the water, with wave heights reaching up to eight feet.
