Jordan “Manny” Collins Jr., aged 16, was last seen on May 8 in Columbia Heights, Minnesota, and was reported missing on May 12, as stated by Columbia Heights Police Chief Matt Markham during a press conference on Tuesday, July 1.

Over the weekend, investigators located human remains at the Waste Management Landfill in Elk River, Minnesota, which have now been confirmed to be Collins, as announced by the chief. Markham indicated that authorities have been conducting searches of the landfill since June 4. The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office is tasked with determining the cause of death.

“The fact that a four-week search of the landfill clearly demonstrates the determination of law enforcement in seeking justice,” Anoka County Sheriff Brad Wise remarked at the press conference. “This is a complicated investigation.”

Wise mentioned that investigators had obtained a video that provided evidence suggesting the body may have been placed in a dumpster and subsequently into a garbage truck. Authorities have indicated that the case is being treated as a homicide, although no suspects have been named.

“A deceased body ended up in a landfill, so I suppose you can draw your own conclusions, yes,” Wise told reporters.
Collins’ mother, Ashley Berry, spoke with KARE 11 prior to the confirmation of his death, expressing to the news station, “He’s a really good kid, and anyone who has encountered him knows that he possesses an old soul.”

A GoFundMe campaign initiated by Berry to assist with her basic expenses had raised over $8,000 as of July 1.

“Since that day, my life has been completely turned upside down,” she wrote on the fundraising page. “Every moment of every day has been dedicated to finding him — engaging with authorities, sharing his story, distributing flyers, and pursuing every possible lead.”]} }}
