Jaelanni Baity,Nyree Jones Obituary, Death; – A man has been charged with manslaughter following the tragic deaths of two teenagers who were struck by a motorcycle in Temple on May 26, according to court records. Documents from the court indicate that Logan S. Mayberry was indicted by a Bell County Grand Jury on December 4, facing two counts of manslaughter.

On the day of the incident, 15-year-old Jaelanni Baity and 14-year-old Nyree Jones, who were best friends, were crossing the street to buy snacks near Jones’ residence when they were reportedly hit and killed by a motorcycle. An affidavit reveals that the collision occurred at the intersection of West Adams Avenue and Westfield Boulevard in Temple.

At the time of the accident, the area was still recovering from a recent tornado that had caused significant damage to property and infrastructure, resulting in non-functional stop lights and lack of illumination at the intersection, as stated in the affidavit.

The motorcyclist was identified as 18-year-old Logan Mayberry. According to the affidavit, Officer Paul Ramirez noted that Mayberry had acquired the motorcycle involved in the incident just two months prior.

A detective from Coryell County informed Temple Police that Mayberry voluntarily surrendered at the Coryell County Jail, where he was charged with two counts of criminally negligent homicide. He was subsequently released on bail 24 hours later.
