Jabari Latrell Peoples Obituary, Death; – The family of Jabari Latrell Peoples, aged 18, has stated that they were not contacted by law enforcement on the night their son was shot and killed by a police officer from Homewood.

“Peoples managed to break free from the officer and retrieved a handgun from the open pocket of the driver’s side door, thereby posing an immediate lethal threat to the officer,” Homewood police stated in a release on Wednesday. “The officer, fearing for his safety, discharged one round from his service weapon in self-defense.”
The police release indicated that Peoples collapsed to the ground while still holding the gun, and officers issued multiple verbal commands for him to drop the weapon. Peoples was transported to UAB Hospital, where he subsequently passed away. The officer received treatment and was released by medics at the scene.
