Greta Lynette Pender-Ray,Brandi Jyasia Sherrod Obituary, Death; – Two of the four individuals who lost their lives in a wrong-way collision in Wilson County have been named.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Greta Lynette Pender-Ray, aged 53, and Brandi Jyasia Sherrod, aged 21, were the driver and passenger traveling in the correct direction on US 301 at the time of the incident.
The identities of the driver and passenger in the vehicle that was traveling the wrong way have yet to be disclosed. Investigators attributed this delay to the fire that consumed the vehicle following the crash. The incident occurred around 4:50 p.m. on US 301, close to Mobley Road, near Lucama.
A representative from the Highway Patrol indicated that the crash was caused by one vehicle traveling south in the northbound lane of the highway. The vehicle traveling the wrong way ignited after the collision, while the other vehicle overturned and veered off the right shoulder.
All four occupants—two from each vehicle—were pronounced dead at the scene. Highway 301 in Lucama was closed in both directions, with the roadway reopening around 8:30 p.m. Residents in the vicinity informed ABC11 that wrong-way drivers are frequently encountered along that section of the road.
“I’ve nearly been struck by a wrong-way driver, and I believe many others have experienced the same. It is frightening,” stated Amy Thompson. “Even when the car is not in my lane, I have second-guessed myself countless times. They appear to be heading directly towards you,” remarked Jasmine Maull.
