Frank J Quinn Obituary, Death;- An 87-year-old man from Vermont has died after attempting to rescue a turtle that had wandered onto Interstate 95, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers arrived at the scene of the fatal pedestrian accident on I-95 South, just north of Sebastian Boulevard, around 4:20 p.m. on Sunday. The incident resulted in the closure of all southbound lanes for several hours.
According to troopers, a driver tried to decelerate to avoid colliding with the man; however, they lost control after being struck by another vehicle from behind. The driver subsequently hit the man before crashing into a fence.
The Florida Highway Patrol stated that the man, who had crossed the southbound lanes to save a turtle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Traffic cameras operated by the Florida Department of Transportation in the vicinity recorded hundreds of vehicles caught in standstill traffic for over four hours. Many individuals exited their vehicles and stood along the shoulder of I-95 while troopers conducted their investigation.
Investigators have identified the victim as Frank J. Quinn from Pawlet, Vermont. The Florida Highway Patrol reopened two lanes of traffic at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.
