Edgar Cando Obituary, Death; – Portland law enforcement officials have apprehended a suspect following a fatal shooting that occurred in the Bayside neighborhood on Monday evening.
The incident took place around 5:30 PM near the intersection of Portland and Alder streets. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Edgar Cando, a 31-year-old resident of Portland, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was subsequently transported to Maine Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities have identified Omar Abd Elkader, a 21-year-old from Portland, as the individual arrested over three hours later at the Portland Police Department, facing charges of murder. He is currently being held without bail at the Cumberland County Jail.
In the aftermath of the shooting, a section of road between Alder and Hanover streets, as well as another segment of Alder Street between Portland Street and Cumberland Avenue, remained closed for several hours on Monday night while the investigation was conducted. As of Tuesday morning, police have refrained from providing any information regarding a potential motive for the incident.
