Devin Mason Obituary, Death;- A deputy from the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office was fatally shot, and another deputy sustained injuries during an officer-involved shooting that occurred early Tuesday morning. The deceased deputy hailed from the Cape Fear region.
The deputies were ambushed while conducting a search for a wanted individual at approximately 1:30 a.m. in the Lamar vicinity. Devin Mason, aged 27, was pronounced dead. He completed his education at West Columbus High School in 2017.
The injured deputy was transported to the hospital and is currently in stable condition. The suspect involved in the incident was killed and has been identified as Cameron Ray Dennett, aged 25, who had outstanding warrants for criminal conspiracy and forgery from Florence County.
Additionally, Kristen Porter, aged 28, was apprehended at the scene on the same charges. Deputy Mason commenced his career with the agency in 2024 and graduated from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy on March 28, 2025.
