David Covey,Gerlyn Covey Obituary, Death; – On Monday, the Okanogan Sheriff’s Office announced that skeletal remains discovered in Spokane have been connected through DNA evidence to a double homicide that occurred in 2022 involving a couple from Omak, who were found murdered near the Canadian border.
The unusual conclusion to the double-homicide investigation began in April 2025 when human skeletal remains were located in a homeless camp in Spokane. Tests confirmed that these remains belonged to 25-year-old Dylan J. Harrington.
DNA from Harrington was reportedly found at the crime scene where authorities discovered the bodies of David Covey, 80, and Gerlyn Covey, 66. The couple had departed from their Omak home on February 13, 2022, to visit their property in Chesaw, Washington, close to the border.
Both Coveys were found deceased on February 16, 2022. Shortly thereafter, investigators initiated a search for Harrington, who also resided in Chesaw.
“The multi-year manhunt for Harrington has concluded,” stated the sheriff’s office in a news release. “The Okanogan Sheriff’s Office expresses gratitude to all agencies that participated in this investigation.
“Our deepest hope is that the Covey family can find some measure of closure,” the news release further stated.
