Daniel Alejandro Oliva Morales Obituary, Death; – A man who is suspected of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and causing a deadly accident on Interstate 80 in the East Bay has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, according to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.
Emmanuel Gonzalez Mendoza, aged 34, was apprehended on Friday following the incident, which took place around 3:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the freeway, just east of Buchanan Street in Albany.
The accident resulted in the death of another driver, identified in court documents as Daniel Alejandro Oliva Morales. A GoFundMe page commemorated him as a cherished father and husband, describing him as a kind and friendly individual who was “deeply loved by all who knew him.” His family informed KTVU that Oliva, who worked as an Amazon delivery driver and was a father to three children aged 11, 16, and 19, was en route to work at the time of the accident.
Gonzalez was operating a Toyota Camry when the crash occurred. The impact caused Oliva’s vehicle, a Hyundai Elantra, to veer off the freeway and onto the road below, landing on its roof, as stated by California Highway Patrol Officer Adib Zeid on Friday. The collision, which resulted in the closure of the eastbound lanes for nearly three hours, also involved a large truck whose driver sustained no injuries.
