Cody Thomas Telega Obituary, Death; – A 37-year-old man from Duluth has died, and two individuals have been arrested following a shooting that occurred early Sunday in the Central Hillside neighborhood.
According to the Duluth Police Department, the victim, Cody Thomas Telega, was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds at approximately 1:30 a.m. on the 100 block of East Third Street. Officers provided assistance before he was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Another man, who was also targeted by the same shooter, fortunately sustained no injuries, as reported by the police.
The two suspects fled the scene but were eventually identified. A request for assistance was made to nearby agencies. The Cloquet Police Department reported that Officer Elijah Haglund later located the suspect vehicle in that city and conducted a traffic stop, successfully apprehending the duo with the help of the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office.
Antonio Duryea Hendon, 35, has been booked into the St. Louis County Jail on preliminary charges of second-degree murder and first-degree assault. Amber Michele Rose Walker, 41, is being held on a preliminary charge of aiding and abetting murder.
According to a news release from the Duluth Police Department, “all individuals involved in this tragic incident are known to each other,” and they are investigating a previous incident that may have led to the shooting homicide.
The 100 block of East Third Street has experienced numerous incidents of gun violence in recent years. In May 2021, Juamada Keller Anderson Jr., 19, was fatally shot by a friend during a confrontation involving several individuals outside a residence. Patrick Wilson Battees Jr., who was 17 at the time, was subsequently sentenced to 12½ years for unintentional murder.
In May 2023, a bystander was injured by a man who discharged several shots in the direction of another individual. The suspect in that case, Mikiyel Deshone Patton, was later killed in a shooting in Minneapolis while his case was still pending. Hendon has a lengthy criminal history in the Twin Cities area and is currently on supervised release as part of a 51-month sentence for felony impaired driving. He has other felony convictions for domestic assault, threats of violence, violating a no-contact order and fourth-degree assault, along with several lesser offenses involving impaired driving, assault and domestic violence.
Rose’s history also appears limited to the Twin Cities, including convictions for third-degree assault, giving a police officer a false name and several driving-related offenses. The St. Louis County Attorney’s Office will review reports and is expected to make a formal charging decision by Tuesday, though judges will often grant a one-day extension in serious cases.
