Cody Haffner Obituary, Death; – The individual who was shot and killed by California Highway Patrol officers in Lathrop has been identified.
As reported by the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office, he was identified as 33-year-old Cody Haffner from Tracy.
According to the CHP, the incident began around 11 p.m. on Wednesday when they responded to reports of a collision on southbound I-5, just north of State Route 120 in Lathrop.
Audio from dispatch describes the vehicle involved as a Corvette, indicating that the individual was firing at passing cars.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Haffner armed with a gun, and he was subsequently shot by the officers. Haffner was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning.
The investigation is being conducted by the CHP’s Valley Division Investigative Services Unit in conjunction with the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office.
The CHP has not yet disclosed the circumstances that led to the crash or the events that resulted in officers shooting Haffner.
