Brandyn Waters Obituary, Death; – An 18-year-old was fatally shot and four others sustained injuries in a shooting incident on a Newark street late Monday night, as reported by the police.
Brandyn Waters, a resident of Paterson, was named by authorities as the deceased, according to WABC. The other injured individuals were described only as two men aged 19, a 24-year-old, and a 26-year-old.
No suspects have been apprehended or publicly named in relation to the shooting. The investigation is being conducted by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Officers arrived at a chaotic scene at the intersection of 6th Ave. W and N 13th St. around 11:40 p.m., as reported by RLS Media. The five victims were found on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds amidst an “unruly crowd,” according to police statements. Waters had been shot in the chest and was declared dead at University Hospital in Newark.
Witnesses reported that numerous shots were fired indiscriminately, with bullets hitting vehicles and nearby buildings, as per RLS Media. The most critically injured victims were in serious condition upon hospitalization, and authorities have not released any updates regarding their recovery.
Newark has experienced several violent incidents in June. Last week, two women were shot and injured while sitting in their home, seemingly victims of stray gunfire, according to police. On June 11, one man was killed and another injured in a separate shooting within the city.
According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been over 170 mass shootings across the nation in 2025, which defines a mass shooting as any incident where at least four victims are injured.
