Angel Alonso Obituary, Death;- A driver was arrested after a 19-year-old was killed and two other people were injured in a crash on Interstate 30 in Arlington on Saturday morning. Arlington police officers were called about 3:50 a.m. to the westbound lanes of I-30 near Baird Farm Road in response to a three-car crash. When officers arrived, they saw a 19-year-old man lying unresponsive on the roadway, police said in a news release.
The 19-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene and was later identified as Angel Alonso by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. Investigators determined Alonso was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado and collided with an unoccupied Jaguar XE, which was abandoned on the right shoulder of the freeway. The impact caused both vehicles to move into the main lanes of traffic and be disabled.
Witnesses told police that Alonso got out of his pickup truck and tried to direct traffic around the wreck using a cellphone light. Shortly afterward, a 2014 Lexus IS 250 headed west on I-30 hit both Alonso and the Silverado, police said. The Lexus, which rolled on its side due to the impact, had a 33-year-old female driver and a 33-year-old male passenger. The driver of the Lexus, Brittani Watkins was taken to a hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Her passenger was hospitalized with serious injuries, police said. Officers suspect that Watkins may have been intoxicated and they obtained a search warrant for a blood sample that will be sent to a lab for further analysis. After doctors medically cleared Watkins, she was arrested on one count of DWI and additional charges may be possible, police said. Watkins is being held at the Tarrant County Jail, and the investigation is ongoing.
