Andrew Thomas Graney ARRESTED; – The individual believed to be responsible for shooting at vehicles on I-40 and residences in southwest Raleigh was identified through surveillance footage and ballistics analysis, as indicated by search warrants.
Andrew Thomas Graney, a 23-year-old resident of Raleigh, has been arrested and faces charges including one count of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to kill, resulting in serious injury, as well as 11 counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle or dwelling. Investigators from the Raleigh Police Department report that Graney discharged his weapon at eight vehicles, causing injury to one driver, and at four homes over three separate days earlier this month.
Graney, a senior at North Carolina State University, is currently being held in custody without the possibility of bail. According to search warrants obtained by CBS 17, .45 caliber shell casings were found at each shooting location, leading investigators to conclude that all 12 incidents were interconnected. The warrants also noted that a grey/silver Hyundai Sonata was recorded on surveillance video arriving in the vicinity of one of the shootings on Centennial Ridge Way.
By analyzing cell phone tower data, investigators established that the Hyundai Sonata was in proximity to at least five of the shooting events. Graney is the registered owner of this vehicle, in which a .45 caliber handgun was discovered in the center console. During a search of the residence where the vehicle was located, police uncovered:
– A digital camera
– A silver laptop computer
– A .45 caliber Llama handgun with a magazine
– A black gun case containing live ammunition
– Spent shell casings
– A box of ammunition
Graney is set to appear in court on Wednesday.
