Caden Sjobeck Obituary, Death; – On December 14, a member of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol initiated a traffic stop for speed enforcement on US 264 in Carteret County.
The officer attempted to apprehend a motorcycle on NC 24 for exceeding the speed limit. However, the motorcyclist did not comply, leading to a pursuit. A patrol vehicle from the Swansboro Police Department, which was also in the vicinity, joined the chase of the same motorcycle that the highway patrolman had initially attempted to stop.
The pursuit concluded on US 70 in Morehead City when the motorcyclist collided with a curb, resulting in his ejection from the motorcycle. Subsequently, he was struck by a Swansboro Police Department officer and then collided with a utility pole. Eighteen-year-old Caden Sjobeck was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident remains under investigation.
