According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), 18-year-old Jaylin Evans was discovered with gunshot wounds by Cairo police last year and subsequently succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. The alleged shooter, 17-year-old Jakavian Jamel Cotton, was identified and apprehended by GBI agents in collaboration with Cairo police.
“This is an utterly senseless tragedy stemming from a dispute over a girl, which has affected two families irreparably,” Mulholland stated. “It has been a challenging few days, but I am relieved to provide some sense of closure for the family.” Cotton is awaiting sentencing at a future date and is currently in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
