Christopher Eddins,Wesley Fowler Obituary, Death; – A suspect has been apprehended in connection with the shooting incident that occurred over the weekend at a gas station in Bessemer, resulting in the deaths of three men.

Raukeem Cunningham, aged 20, faces charges of capital murder related to the triple homicide, as announced by Bessemer police on Monday. The incident took place shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Friday at the Citgo located at 200 Fourth Avenue.

All three victims were declared dead at the scene. The deceased have been identified as Christopher Eddins, 25, Ronald Dixon Jr., 20, and Wesley Fowler, 40. Detective Justin Burmeister indicated that at least two of the victims were together at the store, while the presence of the third victim remains uncertain.

They had not been at the location for an extended period when an individual from a vehicle began firing at them. The gunfire originated in the parking lot and continued inside the establishment, according to Burmeister. “We suspect that there is more than one shooter,” he stated. It appears that the assailants exited their vehicle and pursued the victims into the store while continuing to shoot.

Numerous shots were discharged, with much of the incident recorded on the store’s surveillance cameras. Burmeister noted that the shooting was not random, as at least one of the victims was specifically targeted; however, a motive has yet to be established. Investigators are actively seeking additional potential suspects, he added. This shooting was one of two incidents over the weekend in Bessemer that involved multiple victims.

Shortly after 10 p.m. on Sunday, three men were shot while seated in a pickup truck in the parking lot of a small strip of businesses along the busy Ninth Avenue North. All three were transported to UAB Hospital, with two suffering from life-threatening injuries. That investigation is also ongoing. Cunningham will remain in custody without bond.

The tragic shooting on Friday marks Bessemer’s first triple homicide in recent memory and accounts for the 7th, 8th, and 9th homicides this year. In total, Jefferson County has recorded 139 homicides in 2024, including the nine occurring in Bessemer. Individuals with information are encouraged to contact Bessemer police at 205-481-4366, the tip line at 205-428-3541, or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
