Azyria Bankhead Obituary, Death; – A mother in Houston is grieving the tragic loss of her 14-year-old daughter, Azyria Bankhead, who was fatally shot at a teen pop-up club late Saturday night. Both Azyria Bankhead and a 16-year-old boy were killed, while four other teenagers sustained injuries during the incident.
The shooting occurred around 11:30 p.m. inside a venue located off Jensen Road, where authorities report that gunfire erupted during an event promoted as a teen club. The establishment, referred to as “The Curfew LLC,” has advertised itself on Instagram as the “Hottest teen club in Houston,” but it also functions as an adult after-hours venue that allows BYOB for an additional charge, according to its Google listing.
Charlisa Jones, Azyria’s mother, stood alongside her sister, recounting the anguish of losing her daughter, whom she described as a typical teenager with a passion for life and TikTok. “One thing she loved was dancing. She adored TikTok,” Jones stated. “I would often tell her, ‘Get off TikTok.’ She would respond, ‘Mama, I’m almost done.’ She truly loved life. She was a joyful child.”
Jones disclosed that she had previously permitted Azyria to attend the club, consistently checking in to ensure her safety. However, she was unaware that adults were allowed at the venue. “If you are adults, go to adult clubs and let these young people enjoy life as they deserve,” Jones remarked.
Witnesses reported observing a tall, slender man dressed in all black, wearing a hooded sweatshirt and mask, firing into the crowd. Authorities are actively searching for the suspect and have yet to identify anyone responsible for the shooting.
A video shared on the club’s Instagram page approximately one hour before the shooting displayed a large gathering inside. Jones expressed her desire for the venue to be permanently closed, citing safety concerns for teenagers.
“I hope they shut it down,” she stated. Authorities are urging anyone with information to reach out to the Houston Police Department or Crime Stoppers. As the investigation continues, Jones and her family are left to mourn the loss of a vibrant, joyful teenager who had her whole future ahead of her.
