Nevaeh Simone Botts Arrested; – A woman from Des Moines has received a 12-year federal prison sentence for her role in distributing fentanyl that led to the death of a 16-year-old.
Nevaeh Simone Botts, 21, sold a fentanyl pill to a minor, referred to as A.A. in court documents, who subsequently overdosed and passed away in May 2023. During the same month, Botts was reported to have sold fentanyl pills to an undercover officer on three separate occasions, as stated in a news release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
In July 2023, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Botts’s residence, uncovering marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms, ammunition, two firearms, and hundreds of fentanyl pills.
Botts entered a guilty plea to a single count of distributing a controlled substance that resulted in death or serious bodily injury. Multiple other charges were dismissed at the time of her sentencing on November 15.
She has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release. Prosecutors had initially sought a sentence ranging from 20 to 22 years. Additionally, she has been ordered to pay restitution amounting to $5,574.09.
