Jessie Maroney Obituary, Death; – A 37-year-old woman lost her life in a hit-and-run incident in the West Oakland area of Pittsburgh. The event occurred at approximately 5:45 a.m. on Thursday at the intersection of Terrace and Darragh streets.
According to police, their investigation revealed that Jessie Maroney was in a crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle, which then fled the scene. Maroney succumbed to her injuries after being transported to the hospital.
“The driver of the vehicle has been identified and is fully cooperating with law enforcement. The investigation is still in progress,” stated a representative from Pittsburgh Public Safety on Thursday afternoon. This marks the fourth pedestrian fatality in nearly five years along this particular busy roadway. Local pedestrians expressed their sorrow, though they noted it was not unexpected.
“Just two days ago, a driver nearly hit me after running a red light,” remarked Pitt sophomore Gavin Sandt. “Some of these drivers are incredibly reckless. It doesn’t surprise me too much, but it’s unfortunate that this has happened.” The organization Complete Streets at Pitt informed Action News 4 that they intend to hold a vigil in memory of Maroney in the upcoming days.
