Early Tuesday morning, Brockton police responded to an incident at the intersection of North Main Street and Battles Street, according to prosecutors. A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the street in Brockton, as stated by the authorities.
At approximately 6:23 a.m. on December 3, Brockton Police received a 911 call indicating that a vehicle had collided with a pedestrian at the intersection of North Main and Battles streets, as noted in a statement from the office of Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a woman lying in the roadway. First responders transported the victim to Good Samaritan Hospital, where she was pronounced dead later that day, according to Cruz’s office. The victim was identified as Bettie Etienne, a resident of Brockton.
A preliminary investigation conducted by State Police detectives revealed that Etienne was crossing North Main Street when she was struck by a Dodge Caravan. Furthermore, security footage indicated that the traffic light was green, while the pedestrian control signal displayed a red hand. The driver of the Dodge Caravan, a 20-year-old male, remained at the scene, and an investigation into the incident is currently ongoing, as stated by Cruz’s office.
