Mary Louise Bartine Obituary, Death; – Authorities have confirmed the identity of the woman who lost her life in a collision last week on U.S. Highway 65/NE Hubbell Avenue, located north of Bondurant.
The highway was shut down for several hours on Wednesday, November 27, following the incident, which involved two vehicles. Mary Louise Bartine, an 89-year-old resident of St. Anthony, succumbed to injuries sustained when her SUV collided with a semi-truck at the intersection of U.S. Highway 65/NE Hubbell Avenue and NE 112th Street, approximately six miles north of Bondurant. The accident occurred around 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday.
Captain Ryan Evans from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office reported that the semi-truck and its livestock trailer overturned as a result of the crash. The exact number of pigs in the trailer and whether any were harmed remains unknown.
As per the most recent statistics from the Iowa Department of Transportation, there have been 309 fatalities on Iowa roads this year, which is 21 fewer than the same period in 2023. Over the past five years, the average annual death toll from crashes statewide has been around 350.
