Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi Obituary, Death; Chicago suspect accused of shooting Jewish man near synagogue is dead after found hanging in his cell

Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi Obituary, Death; – An undocumented immigrant accused of shooting an Orthodox Jewish man several times while he was en route to a synagogue in Chicago was found deceased in his jail cell, an apparent suicide.

Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi, 22, reportedly took his own life by hanging on Saturday, as confirmed by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, according to Fox 32. The sheriff’s office stated that there were “no indications of suicide risk prior to the incident.”

Abdallahi, a national of Mauritania, was discovered unresponsive by staff at Cook County Jail during a routine security check at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Efforts to revive him were initiated, and he was subsequently transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities indicated that there were no signs of foul play involved in his death.

Chicago shooting investigation

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office is currently performing an autopsy to ascertain the cause and manner of death. Abdallahi was incarcerated in relation to a shooting that occurred on October 26 near the 6800 block of North Washtenaw Avenue, where he injured a 39-year-old Orthodox Jewish man wearing a kippah on his way to a synagogue.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder and was taken to a hospital, where he was treated and later released. Upon the arrival of first responders, they reportedly encountered gunfire from Abdallahi, who had been identified as the shooter. Chicago Police returned fire, critically wounding Abdallahi, who was then arrested and hospitalized with multiple gunshot injuries. Fortunately, no first responders were harmed during the incident.

Abdallahi faced numerous charges, including terrorism, hate crime, six counts of attempted first-degree murder, and seven counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm at a police officer or firefighter.
