Brandy Manville Obituary, Death; – Two individuals, including a secretary from Portage High School, lost their lives, and a third person sustained injuries in a shooting incident that authorities are attributing to a “domestic disturbance” on Friday evening at a residence in Portage.

The Porter County Coroner’s Office has identified the deceased as Brandy Manville, 46, who served as a secretary at Portage High School, and her husband, Charles, 45. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that the third victim is the couple’s adult daughter.

In a statement issued to the Portage High School community on Saturday, the district characterized Brandy Manville as a person who “always greeted visitors to the main office with a warm smile, providing many students with a listening ear and words of encouragement on a daily basis.”

The school district announced that counseling services will be made available for both students and staff, with principals set to provide guidance on accessing these services on Monday morning.

Portage Police Chief Mike Candiano confirmed that the couple’s daughter was taken to a hospital in Chicago for treatment of her injuries, which were reported to be life-threatening. Mayor Austin Bonta later indicated in a social media update on Saturday that she was in stable condition.

According to a release from Portage Police on Friday night, officers were dispatched at 7:41 p.m. to the 6300 block of Monument Avenue following a report of a domestic disturbance. As the initial responding units approached the residence, police reported hearing multiple gunshots emanating from within. Upon entering the home, officers discovered two deceased adults inside. Authorities stated that no shots were fired by the police during this incident.
