Edgar Ayala Garcia Obituary, Death; 34-year-old identified in fatal Arlington police shooting near AT&T Stadium

Edgar Ayala Garcia Obituary, Death; – Arlington police fatally shot Edgar Ayala Garcia, 34, early Wednesday morning at a Motel 6 located near AT&T Stadium, as indicated by medical examiner records.

According to a police statement, Ayala Garcia was wielding a knife at the time of the incident. Officers were dispatched to a disturbance call at approximately 1 a.m. Wednesday near 900 N. Collins Street, where a 911 caller reported a man aggressively knocking on motel room doors.

Upon arrival, officers heard a voice calling for help from a motel room. They discovered two men engaged in a physical altercation, with Ayala Garcia holding a knife and the other man exhibiting visible cuts on his arm, as reported by the police. Officers instructed Ayala Garcia multiple times to drop the knife; however, he refused and continued to assault the other individual.

Consequently, officers discharged their firearms, striking Ayala Garcia, who was subsequently transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The other individual involved was also taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries and has since been released. Police confirmed that the two men were not acquainted with one another.

No officers sustained injuries during the incident. In accordance with departmental policy, the two officers involved in the response have been placed on administrative leave. Both criminal and administrative investigations will be carried out by the Arlington Police Department, which is standard protocol in such cases.
