Alexis Jose Vegas Obituary, Death; – A man suspected of murder is currently in custody in Texas following an incident in which a potential victim informed law enforcement that he feigned death to escape a life-threatening situation. Eiber Gabriel Sira-Vargas, aged 29, was apprehended in relation to the July homicide of 19-year-old Alexis Jose Vegas, whose body was discovered alongside a roadway with multiple gunshot wounds.

As reported by San Antonio ABC affiliate KSAT, a passerby found Vegas’ remains near a drainage ditch on southbound U.S. Highway 281 at approximately 3:30 p.m. on July 1. Authorities located shell casings and zip ties in proximity to the victim, yet no leads regarding the perpetrator were available.

The investigation progressed when police connected the case to an armed robbery that occurred mere hours before the discovery of Vegas’ body, resulting in a man being shot and hospitalized. According to local CBS affiliate KENS, the injured individual, whose identity has not been disclosed, was initially reluctant to cooperate with law enforcement, as stated in the arrest affidavit. Eventually, he disclosed that he had been with Vegas at the time of the latter’s death. Both men had been abducted by three armed assailants and forced into a vehicle, KENS reported.

“While in the suspect’s vehicle, Witness 1 indicated that the suspect in the front passenger seat aimed a firearm at him throughout the ordeal,” the affidavit details, as per the report. “He was able to describe the location where the suspect vehicle stopped, which matched the scene of the crime.”

The kidnappers ultimately halted the vehicle and ordered Vegas and the man to exit. At that moment, the man recounted to police that the assailants opened fire, hitting both individuals. He stated that he pretended to be deceased until the assailants departed, KENS reported. Subsequently, he was able to identify Sira-Vargas from a photographic lineup. Court documents indicate that Sira-Vargas faces charges of aggravated assault.
