Anthony Lucas Obituary, Death; – A man has lost his life following a suspected incident of drunk driving. As reported by the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department, the accident took place near Brush Creek Elementary in North Vernon shortly after 9 p.m. on Monday evening.
Upon arrival, deputies found that a 2014 Hyundai passenger vehicle had collided with a 2011 Toyota Tundra. Investigators suspect that the driver of the Tundra was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
The collision resulted in the death of 44-year-old Anthony Lucas from North Vernon, who was operating the Hyundai and suffered fatal injuries.
The Tundra’s driver, identified as 41-year-old James Pittman, also from North Vernon, has been arrested on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and causing death, classified as a Level 4 felony.
The sheriff’s department indicated that US 50 East was closed for nearly five hours to facilitate the cleanup and investigation of the crash. “This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the severe consequences associated with impaired driving and the importance of wearing seatbelts. We encourage everyone to make responsible choices to help keep our roads safe,” stated Chief Deputy Cody Low.
