Antonio Pascual Obituary, Death; – A 24-year-old man from California tragically lost his life due to electrocution while installing Christmas lights on Thursday, as reported by officials.
Antonio Pascual was engaged in decorating a roof with Christmas lights on the morning of November 21 in Escondido, according to a statement from the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
While positioning the lights near a high voltage power line, he was electrocuted after inadvertently throwing the lights over the line. Emergency services were alerted, and upon their arrival, they discovered Pascual “hanging upside down from a tree,” as stated by the medical examiner’s office.
Despite the efforts of paramedics to revive him and transport him to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The medical examiner determined that his death was caused by high voltage electrocution, as indicated in the news release.
Juan Pascual, who initiated a GoFundMe campaign in memory of the 24-year-old, mentioned that Antonio was trapped in the tree for an hour while first responders awaited the power company to deactivate the electricity. Unfortunately, by that time, it was too late for any intervention, according to the fundraiser.
Local officials have not yet responded to inquiries from USA TODAY regarding the incident. The organizer of the fundraiser expressed that the family wishes to repatriate Antonio’s remains from California to Guatemala, his country of origin, for burial, where his mother resides.
The organizer noted that Pascual was devoted to caring for his mother and family, and that Christmas lights will hold a lasting significance for them. “He was a brother, a son, and an uncle,” the fundraiser stated. “He had so much to live for at only 24 years old. He will forever remain young.”
