Linda Jean Mlsna Obituary, Death; – Austin police have released new details regarding the circumstances that led to murder charges against an 84-year-old man, Jack Moore, who is accused of killing his roommate and her dog.

According to investigators, Moore allegedly took the life of Linda Mlsna in her East Austin residence earlier this week, subsequently concealing her body along with that of her dog in a closet. This incident marks the 63rd homicide in Austin this year, and authorities have noted that such crimes committed by elderly individuals are quite uncommon.

Linda Mlsna, 83, was discovered deceased at her home on Bryn Mawr Drive on Monday. She was known to enjoy sitting in a shaded area of her front yard, engaging in conversations with neighbors.

In remembrance, some community members have placed flowers, candles, and a heartfelt note for the woman they affectionately referred to as Miss Jean. “I’m just very devastated,” expressed Lupita Diaz, a neighbor residing across the street from Mlsna. Although Diaz preferred not to reveal her identity, she shared fond memories of a woman who played a significant role in her upbringing.

“She had a wonderful sense of humor, often dark, but she was incredibly bright and had a deep affection for animals,” Diaz recalled. Jack Moore has been arrested and charged with the murder of the elderly woman, with her dog found deceased alongside her in the closet.

“It was an exceptionally brutal attack that took place in that residence. The evidence indicates a very violent incident, affecting both our female victim, Linda Jean Mlsna, and the dog that was present,” stated APD Detective Israel Pina.

During a police briefing on Thursday, Detective Pina revealed that Moore was a mutual acquaintance of one of Mlsna’s sons. He noted that while her son had relocated over a month prior, Moore continued to reside with Mlsna as her roommate, with an obligation to pay rent.

“We should not underestimate anyone, even at 84 years of age,” Pina remarked. “However, it is impossible to predict who may pose a danger. It is unsettling to realize that when inviting someone into your home, you may not truly know who they are unless you have thoroughly vetted them or have known them for a significant period.”
