Manuel Gonzalez Arrested; – A man from Tampa has been charged with striking and fatally injuring a pedestrian before fleeing the scene.
Manuel Gonzalez, 41, was apprehended by police in relation to a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred early Tuesday morning. The incident took place at approximately 2:55 a.m. near North Orient Road and East 8th Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a man in his early 40s who had been hit by a vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries sustained in the incident.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage and collected debris left at the scene, which led them to identify the suspect’s vehicle as a 2014 Nissan Titan pickup truck. The truck, registered to Gonzalez, was located at a residence in Tampa, and it was noted that he was the sole individual with access to the vehicle’s keys. According to the Tampa Police Department, the truck exhibited damage consistent with the collision.
Investigators further confirmed that parts missing from Gonzalez’s vehicle matched those recovered from the crash site. Witnesses reported seeing Gonzalez return home early Tuesday morning with noticeable damage to his truck, as stated by investigators. Gonzalez faces charges for leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death.
