Richard Taylor Obituary, Death; Doctor arrested in connection to hit-and-run that killed man in a wheelchair

Richard Taylor Obituary, Death; – A physician from Hillsborough County was taken into custody on Wednesday in relation to a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a man in a wheelchair. The incident occurred shortly after 7:30 p.m. on October 12 on East 124th Avenue in Tampa.

According to deputies, 62-year-old Dr. Gwyn N. Crump struck a man in a wheelchair and subsequently fled the scene. The victim, identified as 53-year-old Richard Taylor, was transported to Advent Health Fletcher, where he succumbed to his injuries. “The hit-and-run was witnessed by several individuals who provided a description of the vehicle,” stated the sheriff’s office.

Utilizing the witness accounts and footage from crime center cameras, investigators successfully identified the vehicle’s license plate. Deputies then visited Crump’s residence, where he allegedly confessed to operating the vehicle on the night of the incident. Crump was arrested on November 13 and charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family during this profoundly challenging time,” remarked Sheriff Chad Chronister. “While nothing can reverse this tragic loss, we hope that this arrest offers some degree of solace to their loved ones.” As per his medical license, Crump has been engaged in occupational medicine practice in Florida since 1999. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
