Robert Leso Obituary, Death; – A man from Maine has lost his life after being struck by a tractor-trailer in Farmington, as reported by law enforcement officials. The victim, identified as 82-year-old Robert Leso from Chesterville, was involved in the incident that occurred on Monday morning near the U.S. post office located at 196 Main St.
According to police, around 10:30 a.m., the tractor-trailer driver was heading north on Main Street when he halted for a pedestrian already in the crosswalk. After confirming that no other pedestrians were present, the driver began to move forward. At that moment, Leso approached from the passenger side of the vehicle and moved around the front of the truck, seemingly out of the driver’s sight.
Police reported that Leso was knocked to the ground and subsequently run over by the front tire of the tractor-trailer. Bystanders witnessed the incident and signaled for the driver to stop. Both the driver and witnesses immediately attempted to assist and revive Leso, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
Authorities indicated that their review of traffic camera footage and witness statements revealed no fault on the part of the driver. The investigation into the crash is ongoing; however, officials do not expect any charges to be filed related to the incident. The Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit was called to the scene due to the involvement of a commercial vehicle.
In a statement, the Farmington Police Department emphasized the importance of collaboration between drivers and pedestrians, as highlighted by Police Chief Kenneth Charles. “Please slow down, be patient, be aware of your surroundings, and avoid distractions. Both pedestrians and motorists should ensure eye contact before proceeding,” the statement read.
Traffic was rerouted around the crash site for approximately four hours while investigators conducted their examination and cleanup efforts on that section of Main Street.
