Sheila M Donovan,Tyler K Donovan Obituary, Death; – Authorities have confirmed the identities of the two individuals who lost their lives in a shooting incident that resulted in a five-hour standoff on Friday in Lenexa. The victims, Sheila M. Donovan, 52, and Tyler K. Donovan, 22, were reportedly shot by their relative, Todd Michael Donovan, 53, who has since been charged with two counts of First-Degree Murder by the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office.
On Friday evening, at approximately 8:30 p.m., law enforcement responded to reports of an armed disturbance at a residence located in the 7900 block of Hallet Street. Upon arrival, officers detected multiple gunshots emanating from the vicinity of the home, as stated by Danny Chavez, a spokesperson for the Lenexa police. Officers engaged in communication with the individual suspected of discharging the firearm, who was confirmed to be inside the residence.
The suspect subsequently barricaded himself within the home and declined to follow officers’ requests to exit peacefully, according to Chavez. Chavez reported that negotiators engaged with the suspect for nearly two hours before he ceased communication with law enforcement. During the negotiations, the suspect informed police that he had ingested some pills. “We utilized various tools, including drones and robots, to ensure safe entry, as we believed the suspect had already discharged a weapon upon the officers’ arrival,” Chavez explained.
At approximately 1:50 a.m., the Lenexa Tactical Team entered the residence and apprehended the suspect, who was then transported to a hospital due to a suspected overdose. Inside the home, officers discovered the bodies of both a woman and a man. The police are treating the incident as a double homicide, with Chavez stating, “The preliminary investigation suggests that both deceased individuals suffered gunshot wounds.” Additionally, it was revealed that a neighbor’s dog was also shot and killed around the same time officers responded to the initial call.
The suspect is currently alive and recovering in a hospital. This incident marks the second and third homicides recorded in Lenexa for the year 2024, according to data compiled by The Star.
