Jonathan Chase Johnson Obituary, Death; – A man who was fatally struck by a vehicle in the Western Addition neighborhood of San Francisco last week has been identified by the city’s Medical Examiner’s Office as 35-year-old Jonathan Chase Johnson.
Law enforcement officials responded to the incident at 7:01 a.m. on Friday at the intersection of Geary Boulevard and Divisadero Street, where the collision took place. Paramedics transported Johnson, a resident of San Francisco, to a hospital, but he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries later that day.
According to the San Francisco police, the driver remained at the scene following the incident. The pedestrian safety advocacy organization Walk San Francisco noted that this incident marks the second pedestrian fatality in the city within a week and the second pedestrian death on Geary Boulevard in the past month, following the tragic death of a 94-year-old man at the intersection of Geary Boulevard and 25th Avenue in early October.
As of now, there have been 21 pedestrian fatalities in San Francisco in 2024, surpassing the total of 18 recorded in all of 2023, according to the organization. “Walking in our city should not be a matter of life or death,” stated Jodie Medeiros, executive director of Walk SF. “We urge every city leader and political candidate to prioritize safe streets now and consistently. Traffic safety is a concern for everyone, and the city has the responsibility to enhance protections for all residents.”
