The pedestrian has been named as 70-year-old Jose Chow, a resident of San Francisco. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man with serious injuries and administered first aid until medical personnel arrived.

Unfortunately, despite the efforts of both the officers and medics, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene. A dump truck was located a few feet from the pedestrian, within a cordoned-off area marked by police tape. Authorities reported that the driver remained at the scene to cooperate with investigators, and there was no indication that drugs or alcohol contributed to the incident.

In response to this tragedy, the pedestrian advocacy organization Walk San Francisco held a vigil for Chow on Tuesday evening, advocating for enhanced street safety measures in the city.

“Our leaders must prioritize this issue and allocate the necessary resources, as many neighbors have expressed their distress, stating, ‘That could have been me,'” remarked Jodie Medeiros, executive director of WalkSF, during the vigil, as reported by CBS News Bay Area.

Chow marks the 20th pedestrian fatality in San Francisco this year, surpassing the total of 18 pedestrian deaths recorded in all of 2022, according to Walk SF. Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the San Francisco Police Department at 415-575-4444 or to send a text tip to TIP 411, beginning the message with SFPD.
