Elroy Clarke Obituary, Death; – A man from Charlotte County was shot and killed by deputies in his driveway shortly after noon on Wednesday, as reported by the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office. The situation escalated when the man, identified as Elroy Clarke, called 911 to request the removal of an individual from his property. Upon the deputies’ arrival, it was revealed that Clarke had an outstanding arrest warrant.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Clarke resisted arrest and ultimately charged at the deputies. Despite multiple attempts to subdue him with non-lethal methods, including a taser, baton, and pepper spray, Clarke continued to resist. Deputies indicated that three officers had to engage physically with him during the altercation.

Sheriff Bill Prummel confirmed that two deputies discharged their firearms during the incident, leading to Clarke’s death. The Sheriff’s Office announced that body camera footage from the event will be made available following an official review.

Troy Johnson, the individual involved in the initial disturbance, is currently in custody as of Wednesday evening. The two deputies who fired their weapons have been placed on administrative leave while an investigation is conducted.
