Kevin Johnson Obituary, Death; – A man from Lancaster County lost his life following a collision on I-83 in Maryland, which resulted in several vehicles being consumed by flames.
According to the Maryland State Police, at approximately 2 p.m. on Wednesday, troopers were dispatched to I-83 near York Road to investigate a multi-vehicle accident. Authorities reported that a 53-year-old man from Virginia was operating a pickup truck towing a trailer when he lost control, veering into oncoming traffic.
The truck collided with a mobile Peterbilt crane driven by 61-year-old James Hutson from Ephrata. The collision ignited both vehicles, and another vehicle subsequently struck the trailer.
Four individuals were transported by ambulance to WellSpan York Hospital for treatment of their injuries. Both Hutson and the pickup truck driver, identified as Kevin Johnson, were pronounced dead at the scene. All northbound lanes of I-83 were closed for over five hours to facilitate the investigation, which is still ongoing.
Responding to the incident were troopers from the Maryland State Police Crash Team and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, along with officers from the Baltimore County Police Department, and personnel from the Baltimore County Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services, and the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration.
