Emily Wegleiz Obituary, Death; – Authorities have identified a 30-year-old woman from Vernon Hills who tragically lost her life on Friday night while attempting to cross the 900 block of South Milwaukee Avenue, as reported by the police.

An autopsy performed on Monday revealed that Emily Wegleiz succumbed to blunt-force injuries sustained in the incident, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Police received a call at approximately 10:43 p.m. on Friday, reporting that a pedestrian had been struck while crossing the northbound lanes, located south of Woodlands Parkway.

Officers initiated lifesaving efforts prior to the arrival of paramedics from the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District; however, Wegleiz was pronounced dead at the scene, as stated by the Vernon Hills police.

Witnesses were interviewed, and the driver involved in the incident remained at the location and cooperated with authorities, according to police reports. There is no suspicion of driver impairment, as indicated by the police.

The section of Milwaukee Avenue in question is a four-lane, illuminated roadway that lacks designated pedestrian crossings. The road was closed for several hours for investigation before being reopened. The incident is currently under investigation by the Vernon Hills police in conjunction with the Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County.
