Eight municipalities in northeastern Ontario have declared states of emergency about severe spring flooding, as rapidly rising water levels continue to threaten homes, roads, and infrastructure across the region.

From larger urban centres to smaller communities on Manitoulin Island, local officials say the sudden transition from winter conditions to flooding has placed significant pressure on emergency crews. Authorities in West Nipissing noted that teams have been working लगातार to maintain access routes and manage water flow where possible.

The affected areas include West Nipissing, Billings Township, Central Manitoulin, Chisholm Township, the Municipality of French River, Gordon/Barrie Island, Greater Sudbury, and Tehkummah Township. Meanwhile, Assiginack Township has lifted its emergency status after repairs were completed on damaged roads.

Provincial emergency teams are actively supporting response efforts by supplying sandbags, protective barriers, and additional personnel to help reduce the impact. Volunteers have also been deployed to assist with safety measures and community support.

Officials warn that conditions may worsen as melting snow in northern areas continues to feed waterways. Emergency support organizations remain on standby, ready to assist with shelter, transportation, and essential services if evacuations become necessary. Residents are advised to stay alert and follow official guidance as the situation develops.
