Roy Childress Obituary, Death;- The Delaware State Police are conducting an investigation into a fatal crash involving four vehicles that took place on Saturday morning in Newark.
According to officials, on November 29, 2025, at around 9:45 a.m., a Honda Civic, followed by an unidentified vehicle, a Subaru Impreza, and a Hyundai Elantra, were all heading northbound on Salem Church Road, situated south of the I-95 overpass. Concurrently, a Chevrolet Malibu was traveling southbound on Salem Church Road but was positioned in the northbound lane as it neared the line of northbound vehicles.
The initial investigation indicated that the unidentified vehicle moved into the southbound lane in an effort to overtake the Honda Civic. As the unidentified vehicle and the Malibu approached one another, the Malibu swerved back into the southbound lane but subsequently overcorrected and veered back into the northbound lane, resulting in a head-on collision with the Civic, as reported by the police. The Malibu continued its southbound trajectory before colliding with the Impreza, and subsequently the Elantra.
The driver of the Civic, 60-year-old Roy Childress from Middletown, Delaware, was declared dead at the scene.
The drivers of the Impreza, a 36-year-old male from Newark, Delaware, and the Elantra, a 32-year-old male from Wilmington, Delaware, reported no injuries at the scene.
The driver of the Malibu, a 21-year-old male from Dover, Delaware, was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
The unidentified vehicle did not collide and left the scene.
The roadway was closed for about four hours while the investigation and clearance of the scene took place.
