Mario Camacho Obituary, Death;- On the previous day, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office identified Mario Camacho, a 27-year-old individual, as the suspect involved in a shooting incident involving a deputy that took place on November 2.
At 2:04 p.m., deputies from Hillsborough responded to a report concerning an ongoing domestic violence situation. The caller indicated that the suspect was armed with a knife and was choking their 7-year-old brother.
Upon arrival at the location, the officers found that the suspect had barricaded himself along with his brother in a bedroom. Hearing the child’s cries for assistance, the deputies forcibly entered the room by kicking down the door. Once inside, the suspect, who was still holding a knife, refused to release the child. After several requests for the suspect to drop the weapon, Deputy Gonzalez discharged his firearm, thereby rescuing the 7-year-old brother.
The suspect was subsequently transported to Brandon Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:47 p.m.
Deputy Gonzalez has served with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office for nearly six years, with five years as a Detention Deputy and just under one year as a Law Enforcement Deputy. He has been placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing.
