Destiny Harrison,Daniel Monzon Arrested; – The parents and grandmother of a young boy discovered deceased inside a freezer in a Lynwood apartment were charged with murder and additional offenses on Friday.
The mother, 25-year-old Destiny Harrison; father, 25-year-old Daniel Monzon; and grandmother, 45-year-old Ana Zarceno-Carcamo, were all anticipated to be arraigned on Friday in Compton.
All three individuals faced charges of murder, torture, and willful cruelty to a child, with an allegation of willful harm leading to death. Monzon and Zarceno-Carcamo were additionally charged with being accessories after the fact.
Deputies from the sheriff’s department Century Station responded to the apartment located in the 3100 block of Euclid Avenue, west of Peach Street, around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday to perform a welfare check requested by an unidentified resident who visited the sheriff’s station, as reported by LASD Sgt. Nancy Veliz to City News Service.
Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics were summoned to the residence and declared the boy, who prosecutors believe was approximately 8 years old, dead at the scene. The circumstances surrounding the child’s death, identified by prosecutors only as Isaiah H., remain unclear.
Authorities apprehended the boy’s mother, father, and grandmother at the location, where three additional children were also present. These children, aged 9, 13, and 16 months, were placed into protective custody by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services.
Harrison, Monzon, and Zarceno-Carcamo were all being held on a $2 million bail.
“This is an unimaginable and horrific tragedy,” stated Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn in a statement on Wednesday. “I am prepared to assist the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department as they investigate this child’s death. My heart aches for what the other children in this household must have endured, and it is essential that our Department of Children and Family Services does everything possible to support them and ensure their safety in protective custody.”
