Briana Casto Obituary, Death; – A man suspected of murder in Carrollton was located through his cell phone and found in Van Alstyne, roughly 40 miles away, according to police reports.
Van Alstyne police received a notification early Tuesday morning, around 3:30 a.m., indicating that the suspect might be within their jurisdiction, less than 24 hours following the shooting incident. Officers promptly responded to the area where the phone signal was detected and swiftly discovered Davis’ vehicle, in which he was barricaded.
Negotiators established communication with Davis via phone, but he terminated the call. As a SWAT team neared the vehicle, officers heard a single gunshot. According to police, Davis had inflicted a gunshot wound on himself.
First responders provided lifesaving assistance at the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
No officers sustained injuries during the incident. Several agencies from Collin and Grayson counties supported the Carrollton Police Department in the operation, including the Collin County Sheriff’s Office, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, and the police departments of Anna and Howe.
Due to the nearby police activity, Partin Elementary School postponed its opening on Tuesday. Carrollton police initially responded to a shooting report in the 4600 block of North Josey Lane on Monday at approximately 10:15 a.m. Officers discovered 24-year-old Briana Casto, who had succumbed to a gunshot wound.
Investigators identified her boyfriend, Jomaar Lee Davis, as the main suspect and secured a warrant for his arrest. Police utilized the warrant to trace his cell phone location, which was signaling from Van Alstyne.
