Jose R Ramirez Obituary, Death; – A man who was fatally shot in a road rage incident on SR-201 has been identified by law enforcement officials. The incident occurred shortly after 5 a.m. on Monday, along SR-201 between Redwood Road and 100 West, at the boundary of Salt Lake City and West Valley City.

The alleged shooter, 44-year-old Thomas Jim Long, is accused of fatally shooting 50-year-old Jose R. Ramirez, a resident of Salt Lake County. Utah Highway Patrol troopers responded to reports of a road rage confrontation on Monday, which involved a collision between a truck and an SUV following a heated exchange.

According to court documents, dash camera footage indicated that Ramirez appeared to cut off Long, resulting in aggressive behavior from both drivers. Following the confrontation, Long reportedly maneuvered his vehicle in front of Ramirez, forcing both vehicles into a concrete barrier, where he discharged multiple rounds at Ramirez.

Authorities recovered 15 shell casings from the scene. Long has been taken into custody at the Salt Lake County Jail, facing charges of first-degree murder, third-degree felony aggravated assault, and reckless driving.
