Andrew Leon Arrested; – A jury has convicted Andrew Leon of first-degree murder in the death of his former girlfriend’s mother.
Leon displayed minimal reaction as the verdict was announced, and there were no family members or friends present in the courtroom.
The jury’s deliberation took less than a day.
The judge is scheduled to sentence Leon on January 21, and he faces a potential life sentence in prison.
In November 2023, Huron police discovered 37-year-old April Diaz suffering from gunshot wounds on a road in Huron. She succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
The then 19-year-old Leon subsequently surrendered to law enforcement in Monterey County.
Leon stated that he had visited Diaz’s residence in Huron intending to speak with her daughter, but Diaz denied him entry.
It was at that moment that he opened fire, striking Diaz 11 times until his firearm malfunctioned.
